清乾隆年间，湖北宜昌府归州乡绅李高永，因贤达被乾隆帝召见，恩赐“登仕郎”。李高永感念皇恩，将当地茶叶献至皇上御前，乾隆见鲜叶断面吐银丝，宛若锦缎，品饮清香馥郁，回味甘醇。顿时龙颜大悦，赏赐盖碗茶具，赐名“丝绵茶”。
